far south east of the soul (2003)

Far South East of the Soul is an interactive cycle of poems about love, technology and confusion, using only words taken from my email spam folder in 2002 and 2003. It is a simple work, a cycle of 77 poems, randomly interlinked. The randomising script chooses a poem randomly each time you click. This is the natural way to navigate the cycle of poems because the poems can be read in any order.Each link randomly chooses another poem at the time it is clicked, so it may be that a previously read poem, or even the current poem, appears again. The random choice script was originally in Perl, but I rewrote it in JavaScript several years ago. The work has only ever been exhibited here.
